Waking up in Bogota

Leaving Boston, I took a shot of the good ole Charles River.  Our morning was busy still trying to finalize plans and closing up the house.  The driver was right on time and we got to the airport in an hour.  Amazing.  Delta check-in was a no-brainer.  Did not have to remove our shoes or take anything out of our luggage.  I can't figure out why it was so easy.

The flight to Atlanta was just a couple of hours. We got a bite to eat when we landed and headed straight to the next gate.  The Bogota flight was about 4 hours. I was glad for the premium comfort seats.  We had plenty of leg room and free food and drinks.  The guy sitting in the row with us turned out to have relatives in Wakefield, where my brother lives. We had a great chat with him. He is in Bogota on business -- the cheese business. Turns out that Bogota is a great market for buffalo mozzarella -- who would've guessed.

Landed on time and had a bit of a scare when we exited the airport.  With all the signs being held up, we did not see our name.  Walked around for a bit and then asked some nice folks for help.  A very nice gentlemen made a call for us and it turned out that our driver was in the middle of the pack right in front of us!!  We just didn't see the sign.  I felt like a real idiot!  Visions of how we were stranded at the Cairo airport in Egypt came swimming back to me.  Anyway, our driver, Walter is GREAT!! He will be with us when needed.  We had a great conversation on the way to the hotel.  It is all very encouraging.

The Hotel de la Opera is in the heart of the old section right next to the opera house.  It is an old hotel in the Spanish tradition.  Hector greeted us at the door and could not have been nicer.  Our room is quite comfortable with a view of Montserrate.  I am grateful that we don't have to hassle with switching rooms.

It is now almost 1 am and it is time to get some sleep.  Tomorrow we are on our own.  We plan on taking in a few museums and doing the graffiti tour in the afternoon.  Buenes noches.

Next time... Exploring Bogota

  1. Glad you arrived safely - with on time flights & a nice hotel room no less! Awaiting photos of the adventures and the views (if it's not too cloudy) from Monserrate.
